International Bacon Day

Ok people, tomorrow is International Bacon Day (who knew?).  So get your bacon on like donkey kong!

Also a bowl made completely out of BACON!  Probably wouldn’t want to try to eat your cereal out of it, but it would be nice for a salad or yummy with mashed potatoes.

We always ask my friend Angela to bring Bacon Wrapped Little Smokies to our parties.  They are like BBQ Little Smokies that you cook in the crock pot, but amped up times ten.

Ice Cream Party: Ice Cream Pinata

This weekend we had an ice cream themed party for my newly two year-old little girl.  It was nothing huge and fancy, but I had a few things that I wanted to share.  First up, the piñata.  I LOVED the way it turned out, and was sad to see it brutally destroyed by the little kiddos. 

I got my inspiration here, At Second Street, she threw a Minnie themed party and made a Minnie piñata.  I used her instructions, but with a different shape.  My husband was a little skeptical about not making a paper mache piñata, but it worked out great and was mess free. 

So I figure, no mess, free cardboard I had on hand, crepe paper from the Dollar Tree, and ta da, a cute CHEAP pinata.

 

Filled with candy, ready to be closed up.  Note:  DO NOT for get to leave a hole to put the candy in!  Major oops.    

 

Finished product, ready to be beat and busted open.  

 

 

And if I was in this picture, you could see me shedding a small tear for my darling piñata.  

 

 

 

National Watermelon Day

We love watermelon around here.  Love it.  It is one of the things I most look forward to in the summertime. 

So in honor of National Watermelon Day I have two treats for you. 

First the funny.  Cake Wrecks is also celebrating NWD and had some pretty wreckariffic cakes (and as always funny commentary).

Second the practical.  About a month ago I learned the coolest way to cut a watermelon from a friend.  I was going to diagram it all for you but found a great video at allrecipes.com. 

So enjoy a big juicy slice today in commemoration of NWD (we did). 

Jellybean Easter Song

I’m always looking for cute songs for school, I found this one that is semi related to Easter and wanted to share.

I started off asking the kids to give me a name of a bean {Black, Pinto, Green, Coffee, Garbanzo . . .}

I use the first answer and sing the song. 

My dog {Black} likes to roam.

Likes to roam from his home.

He came back nice and clean.

Where oh where has Black bean?

Black bean, black bean, where oh where has Black bean?

 

Eventually someone will say Jelly is a kind of bean.  Then I give the kids a jellybean. 

Cheese Ball Goldfish “Carrots” and Bunny Pop

I’m sure we’ve all seen these “carrots” around the web somewhere. Not the most original idea ever. I made these for our Primary kids and for my daughters little friends.

{Supplies}
12, 16 inch cake decorating bags. These things are super heavy duty and about $5.00 at Walmart

1 Sam’s Club size jar of Cheese Balls. I really only used about a 1/4 of these.

1 Sam’s Club size box of Goldfish. Again I only used one of the three bags.

Green tissue paper

Green curling ribbon

{Instructions}
Alternate layering Goldfish and cheese balls until bags are about 3/4 of the way full. Cut a small square of tissue paper, insert into the remaining empty space of the bag. Scrunch and tie tightly with ribbon.

So easy and I think the kids will really enjoy them!

See, I had everything bought and cut out, bows tied, they just need to be assembled. I was even going to make a chocolate milk one for my daughter. Hopefully I’ll have time before Easter!

A Great Accessory For Any Occasion

My husband and I teach Primary at Church. We actually teach just the three to six year-olds. I wanted to make a fun Valentine’s treat for our Primary kiddos and for my daughters little friends. I saw this and thought it would be a good kid treat.

I am not a huge fan of those Sweethearts, so I used taffy, sweethearts, and Butterfinger hearts.

At first I cut my saran wrap in half widthwise, but found that it didn’t hold the candy as well as I wanted, so I ended up cutting off about a 1/4 instead. I thought using the whole width was too saran wrappy.

Easiest way I found was to lay out my saran wrap flat, and then lay out the candy, then tie it off. When I tried to do it a section at a time things got a little hairy.

These are obviously not just limited to Valentine’s Day. I’m sure you’ve seen them at graduations, you could also use any holiday candy to make it fit the upcoming holiday.

Oh, and the kids loved them! I gave one to a little Korean girl I tutor and she still has it!
